The first half of summer

I love stumbling on one of my boys quietly immersed in a book.
And get a load of those goldi-locks!

Race car Rhett! Start a count down and he's off as fast as those sturdy legs can run.
He knows he is the fastest racecar in the world.
The confidence of this guy!

This guy really shakes up our family dynamic.
We love it.

As soon as Matt or I hit the floor on our back these boys are crawling all over us!

This is Rhett telling us it's bedtime.

I thought it would never happen.
The twinners are becoming besties.
They wrestle, they hug, they tickle each other.
They laugh together, they cry together.
They wake each other up from naps because they are dying to see each other.
They watch the sunrise together over early morning breakfast.
They imitate what they see the other one is doing
(which unfortunately meant two raps on the head with toy cars for Jonas the other day).

And soon, if my courage doesn't fail me, they will share a room together.

Maybe there is something in this twins are best friends thing after all.

I've been dabbling in some Montessori. Jonas makes us toast for us, pours drinks into his brothers' glasses and chops up strawberries and bananas for all of us. He takes so much pride in serving us. It makes my heart feel so full when I see that light in his eyes that there isn't quite enough room in my chest. And Harland gets the pranciest light little step after working alongside me to sweep the floor or start a load of clothes in the dryer.

It is so valuable for children to contribute to the family. I almost feel as though I can see my boys' self value increase right in front of my eyes when they are helping and especially when they are trusted with a special job that is their own.

So often I realize I underestimate Jonas, Rhett and Harland's abilities and desires. They are teaching me A LOT.

Jonas' was paying scrupulous attention to washing the windows (or perhaps more accurately to spraying the windows) which has now transferred to washing his hands. It's always so interesting to see what he will want to master next.
