My Working Man

I love this hard working guy. On Saturday I tagged along in Matt's work truck and observed a civil engineer in action.
My favorite quote of the day was "I won't be on his Christmas list". Poor engineers are not everyone's favorite guys, especially construction workers and their bosses if the asphalt or concrete they are using doesn't pass the civil tests. It costs the owners of construction companies thousands of dollars to redo sections of roads when that happens and they seem to resent that engineers have the power to fail their work (though really the engineers just conduct the tests and deliver the news). Matt was delivering good news to the construction owner that day so he declared that he liked Matt and would love to have him back to the site. It was the City of Lloydminster transportation head who had been scratched off his Christmas list.

YW CAMP

For the past week I have been at the Bonnie Doon Stake Young Women's Camp at Ross Lake. I grew up in the Bonnie Doon Stake but I never made it out to a Stake Camp because I was always either on vacation with my family or unable to get enough days off of work, so I kind of felt like I was catching up on something I'd missed out on. The fact that President Card, the Stake President when I was a Laurel, is still the Stake President and that other leaders at the camp kept mistaking me for a young woman actually made me kind of feel like I was an eighteen year old at camp (the heidi braids may have helped too).

Six girls, three of whom are visiting from Korea, and two other leaders made up our Lloydminster group. It rained nearly every day but we had a lot of fun canoeing, hiking, biking, geocaching, and going to the other activities and firesides ( I still have half a dozen weird camp songs lingering in my head from the fireside sing-a-longs). I can say with complete confidence now that my gore-tex hiking boots are waterproof enough to withstand the torrential downpours of the West Coast Trail, unfortunately I cannot say with ringing confidence that they will be completely comfortable after kilometer 20.

Canada Day

Usually on Canada Day there are family events in the parks that involve a variety of games and races, so the Hunspergers and the Harkers decided to have some friendly family competitions of their own... in golf carts!

Event 1: Bumper Carts: 1 pt Hunspergers (although they did have a hill advantage)
Event 2: Splash through the water the fastest: 1 pt Harkers
Event 3: Race to the Finish Line: 1 pt Harkers
-1 pt Hunspergers (for losing golf equipment along the way)

Clearly Matt and I were the winners.
